Usage

There are two ways to use calculated fields:

Calculated Values

This method does not create a column in the database. The value will be re-calculated every time the field is viewed, according to the specified calculation.

  • Create your Field in the normal way
  • Set the Field Type to "Calculated"
  • Specify the calculation to be used

If you set the Field Type to "Calculated" then the field will always be read only.

Default Values

This method is used to set a default value for a "normal" Field, i.e. any Field Type other than "Calculated". The calculation will be used to set the default value on new items.

  • Edit the Layout on which you want to set the default value
  • Select the Field
  • Specify the calculation for the "Calculated Default"

You can combine this setting with "Read Only" if you want to force the use of the calculated value. Or you can leave it editable, so the user can change it if they wish.
